We all are aware of the challenges and problems the pandemic brought last year. Be it strict lockdown or immigration to the virtual world. Initially, people were having a hard time adjusting to the new digital world. But during this time, many companies came up with innovative ideas.

As time progressed, different industries looked for various ways to stay relevant. Moving operations to online were one such answer. These Operations included launch events and press conferences were hosted online. The Virtual/Hybrid events replaced the physical ones. Some of the companies mastered the art of successfully hosting these digital events. Brands like Apple, Twitch, and Riots games lead the game of virtual/hybrid events. But among all this digital action Automobile industry largely remained absent.

Automobile Industry and the year of the pandemic

2020 was full of highs and lows for the Auto industry. Before the lockdown, we witnessed a few Auto events like Auto Expo. But as the lockdown came into effect, we saw many events being canceled. Even the holy trinity of Auto shows — Geneva, Detroit, and Paris were not able to resist. While auto fans are going to miss the Geneva motor show in 2021 also. The Lamborghini decided that it won’t be a part of any auto show in the future. Even the Cartier pulls the plug on the Cartier Concours d’Elegance. A world-renowned vintage car show.

Despite many hurdles, a lot of automotive launches happened last year. Hyundai Creta, Kia Sonet, Honda City, and Mahindra Thar to begin with. Also, the three new electric vehicles made their way to our shores. These were the Tata Nexon EV, MG ZS EV, and the Mercedes-Benz EQC.

While all this was happening, Nissan made a big splash with its new SUV, Magnite. Magnite took the compact SUV segment with the storm. With around 30000 bookings in a single month, it made Nissan’s revival in the Indian market possible.

Virtual/Hybrid events — the untapped potential

These launches mostly took place in the form of small physical events. But some brands chose a different approach. And one of these brands was MG.

MG launched Hector Plus in India virtually. This event was live-streamed. Using social media platforms like Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn, and Twitter. It meant that a higher number of people were able to witness. With this greater reach, it became a massively successful event. Both Media and the audience responded with positive reviews.

When it comes to hybrid or virtual events, it is necessary to choose the right platform. The success of the event depends upon the experience of the audience. Not only the interface needs to be audience-friendly, but also it needs to be engaging. This is what we do here at Dreamcast.
